Setting the record for the fastest front-wheel drive production car to have lapped the Nurburgring ring: the Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R.
The Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R offers pure performance with no compromises. This record-breaking hot hatch is the lightest out of all Renault R.S. models, weighing just 1,306kg and delivering a power to weight ratio of 4.35 kg/hp. Together with its lightweight body and powerful 1.8-litre turbocharged engine, the Trophy-R offers greater traction, cornering speed and braking endurance to deliver an ultra-high performance that brings intense driving pleasure. With only 500 units of the Trophy-R available globally, and just 32 in the UK, the Trophy-R is the ultimate in sporting performance and exclusivity.
Aimed at delivering a race-track inspired performance, the Trophy-R has been fitted with a number of lightweight parts including a carbon composite bonnet, a carbon fibre diffuser, a unique lightened rear axle, thinner glazing and a lightweight battery. Its aerodynamic design ensures high intake but low drag whilst a number of bespoke features have been engineered in cooperation with key partners including Öhlins dampers, an Akrapovič lightweight titanium exhaust, Brembo brakes and Bridgestone tyres.
Designed for performance car enthusiasts, the Trophy-R’s interior comprises of composite Sabelt one-piece seats with optional six-point racing harnesses and an Alcantara covered steering wheel whilst the removal of the rear seats means an impressive 3 kg has been deducted from the car’s kerbweight. For a more personalised and intuitive drive than ever before, drivers can access detailed performance data and telemetry via the Trophy R’s 7-inch R-LINK 2 infotainment screen complete with R.S. Monitor.
The Trophy-R’s powerful 1.8-litre engine is capable of producing in excess of 300 PS and an impressive 400 Nm of torque; however, its lightweight body sets it apart from the rest and helps this hot hatch achieve its record-breaking performance. A combination of the Trophy-R’s lightweight body and 1.8-litre turbo four-cylinder engine means it can reach 0-62 mph in just 5.4 seconds and achieve a max speed of 163mph to deliver the best performance ever from a Renault production car.
