This month saw South Lanarkshire Council take delivery of 141 all-electric New Renault ZOEs from our Park’s Renault Dealership in East Kilbride. This purchase represents the biggest ever order of Renault Z.E electric vehicles across the country and here at Park’s we are proud to be a part of it!

The majority of the vehicles will be used to switch the Council’s pool car fleet of 104 vehicles from diesel to fully electric power. The Renault ZOEs will be used in number of areas of the business, throughout all 20 wards, and sometimes even further afield, and will ensure travel for business requirements such as site visits, meetings and training appointments will all now be free of carbon dioxide and NO emissions.

The remaining 37 Renault ZOEs will be deployed to a wide range of council services including Roads, Housing, Leisure and Culture. Once in service, the new arrivals will mean over a quarter of all South Lanarkshire Council vehicles will now be fully electric, contributing to a cleaner, more environmentally friendly atmosphere around the region and surrounding areas.

The council also hopes that by exposing so many of its personnel to the Renault ZOE, they will experience the benefits of driving an electric vehicle and this will encourage them to consider making the changes from a conventional fuel vehicle to an EV.

Voted ‘Best Small Electric Car’ at the What Car? Awards for seven years in row, it’s no surprise the council opted for the Renault ZOE when purchasing this record breaking fleet order, but the impressive WLTP range of 245 miles and spacious size of the ZOE further influenced their choice in electric vehicle.

The long standing relationship between Park’s Renault and South Lanarkshire Council which has now spanned over 10 years helped secure the contract and we couldn’t be happier to be part of such a monumental operation.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “We are delighted that these new electric vehicles will help us on our journey to reduce the amount of emissions across our entire fleet. We are aware of the Scottish Government’s targets to help fight climate change and we will continue to look at new and innovative ways to help us contribute to that. The early feedback we have had from staff using the vehicles is very positive, with many praising how far they can travel on a single charge as well as how comfortable and responsive they are to drive.”

Here at Park’s we are delighted to see our local council following by example, and highlighting their commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment through the benefits of low carbon travel, and we believe this is only just the beginning.
