The Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) is a truly forward thinking model. Charging from empty to fully charged in less than 2-and-a-half hours – and capable of producing up to 38 miles of pure electric driving – it is perfectly built for powering short, efficient journeys to and from work. Known for its flexibility, the petrol-powered engine ensures that it is as equally reliable and effective over longer distances.
The exterior of the Niro PHEV is distinct – bold in size, but with a smooth refinement in the bodywork and newly-designed satin-finish grille that support the car’s modern appeal. The powerful rear spoiler not only looks good, but functions by stabilising the car when travelling at speed. The auto wipers and auto lights – LED daytime running lights on the front and combination lights at the rear – provide a stylish functionality. The 16” wheels comprise of low rolling resistance tyres which are designed to conserve energy with every revolution, and get the most out of your tank of fuel.
The interior focuses on providing a comfortable and interactive driving experience. The front black leather upholstered seats are adjustable, and come with in-built ventilation for warm days, and a heating function for colder days. The heated steering wheel also makes things a little easier on winter mornings. The Niro PHEV contains more than sufficient boot space – reduced only by the electric batteries – of around 324 litres. This is supported by split folding rear seats, and front & rear door storage.
Technology is prominent in the Niro PHEV. An 8” sat-nav touchscreen (linked to the rear-view camera) makes every journey simpler by generating the quickest, most efficient travel routes for you. Apple CarPlayTM and Android AutoTM are both supported, allowing you to access your own music and podcasts, as well phone calls safely via Bluetooth hands-free. The wireless mobile phone charger is another particularly useful feature – allowing you to store and charge your phone simultaneously on a charging pad situated on the central panel. The Niro PHEV also utilises technology for safety and convenience purposes. Features include Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).
The Kia Niro PHEV comes with a 1.6 litre petrol and 8.9kWh lithium-ion hybrid engine. It produces 139bhp between the petrol engine and the battery, and returns a highly-economical combined fuel consumption of 217mpg. It can achieve 0-60mph in 10.4 seconds, and reach a top speed of 107mph. The fuel tank capacity is 43 litres, and is supplemented by the aforementioned 36 miles of electric power. CO2 emissions of 29g/km further underline the model’s environmental-friendliness. The battery which generates the electric power is covered as part of the Kia 7-year warranty, giving customers the required peace of mind. The Niro PHEV is available in a range of colours – including Clear White, Graphite and Gravity Blue.
