PLUG-IN HYBRID EXPLAINED

A plug-in hybrid vehicle combines both a combustion engine and electric motor that can be recharged via a cable. Both have the ability to drive the vehicle independently or together

How does a plug-in hybrid work?
Plug-in Hybrid vehicles intelligently interplay between both the petrol engine and electric motor. This enables fuel saving, lower exhaust emissions and of course pure BMW driving pleasure.

On shorter journeys and ones of up to 30mph, a BMW plug-in hybrid generally runs on pure electric power, such as in city streets. For maximum efficiency when setting out on a longer journey or when rapidly accelerating, it uses the combined power of the electric motor and combustion engine. If the battery which powers the electric motor has no charge, the plug-in hybrid will drive using only the combustion engine.

CHARGING YOUR PLUG-IN HYBRID

Home charging
The BMW i Wallbox Connect can charge your BMW Plug-in Hybrid up to 80% capacity in approximately 3-5 hours.
This is 70% faster than the conventional 3-pin socket charging option.

Public charging
Charging on the go is easy across the thousands of charging stations across Scotland.

Charging cables
All new BMW Plug-in Hybrids come with 2 cables; a standard BMW charging cable which can be used in any conventional 3-pin socket
and BMW AC Fast Charging Cable (type 2).

Plug in hybrid vehicles require mains electricity for charging.
