PLUG-IN HYBRID EXPLAINED.

A plug-in hybrid vehicle combines both a combustion engine and electric motor that can be recharged via a cable. Both have the ability to drive the vehicle independently or together.

How does plug-in hybrid work?

Plug-in Hybrid vehicles intelligently interplay between both the petrol engine and the electric motor. This enables fuel saving, lower exhaust emissions and of course pure BMW driving pleasure.

On shorter journeys and ones of up to 30mph, a BMW plug-in hybrid generally runs on pure electric power, such as in city streets. For maximum efficiency when setting out on a longer journey or when rapidly accelerating, it uses the combined power of the electric motor and combustion engine. If the battery which powers the electric motor has no charge, the plug-in hybrid will drive using only the combustion engine.
