New McLaren 720S Spider

Available at McLaren Glasgow and McLaren Leeds

A car for those who see more and seek out the extraordinary. The McLaren 720S Spider is a car that delivers the best of both worlds… a convertible supercar that’s every bit as sensational as the Coupe. The 720S Spider serves the same nerve-tingling rush with the roof down.

As with every McLaren, engineers and designers have worked in a symbiotic fashion to create the McLaren 720S Spider. Every line and curve of the 720S Spider has been crafted with aerodynamic excellence and performance in mind. Not only is the 720S Spider’s carbon fibre structure incredibly light, it’s incredibly strong too. This means no additional strengthening was needed to accommodate the retractable hard top (RHT). With barely any additional weight compared to the 720S Coupe, the 720S Spider is as uncompromisingly thrilling.

A design staple of every McLaren is the iconic dihedral doors, adding to the overall impressive look but also making it easier for driver and passenger to get in and out of the car. For the 720S Spider, the doors include a soft-close feature and with are sealed neatly to the body of the car - reducing noise and vibration, even at high speeds. The shrink-wrapped carbon fibre Monocage II-S structure maximises efficiency and performance whilst reducing drag.

The advanced carbon fibre composite structure allows for ultra-agile A-pillars and compact buttresses. The buttresses - a distinctive design feature - direct air over the tonneau, improving powertrain cooling and increase downforce all whilst increasing visibility.

The unique glazed electrochromic glass option which allows light into the cabin even with the roof up. The roof hard top retracts at the press of the button and silently folds in under 11 seconds and whilst travelling at up to 50km/h.

Light and spacious. The 720S Spider is equipped with 150 litres of storage in the front, and an additional 58 litres of storage under the tonneau. Plenty of room for weekends away.

The 720S Spider’s design is testament to McLaren’s dedication to aerodynamic principles and extreme performance.

The interior follows the same cohesive aesthetic as the exterior: minimalistic, luxurious and clutter-free allowing the driver to be the primary focus.

Featuring a high-resolution Central Infotainment Screen, the 720S Spider delivers the ideal driver experience. With Comfort, Sport and Track driving modes easily selected at the press of a button, transform the car into a car focused entirely to your needs.

The McLaren Driver Interface (MDI) makes all crucial driver information available across the Central Infotainment Screen on the central console, as well as the neat Folding Driver Display behind the steering wheel. Full and Slim Display Modes can easily be switched between at touch of a button. Every detail is considered. The infotainment system puts navigation, audio track information right in front of the driver whilst the four-speaker audio system (the lightest ever fitted in a production McLaren) offers supreme sound quality across frequency ranges.

The 720S Spider is no ordinary supercar - luxurious and comfortable. The use of the finest-grade leather and machined aluminium, makes the car light, tactile and a cut above the competition. No McLaren is complete without the signature carbon fibre, creating a deluxe and sporty interior.

Staggeringly fast with astonishing feedback, the 720S Spider offers maximised power, sharpened responses and increased efficiency. The exposed engine bay shows the 4.0 Litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine in all its glory. The supercar’s powerhouse is capable of immense power which includes 720PS and 770 Nm of torque.

The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) offers different characteristics as you navigate each driving mode. In Sport mode, the gearbox temporarily cuts the ignition spark during a shift to improve gear change times. Whereas Inertia Push technology comes in to play whilst in Track mode. This utilises built-up kinetic energy to deliver an jolt of torque as the next forward gear is engaged - ensuring uninterrupted acceleration. Comfort delivers as promised – a refined drive that’s effortlessly ideal for life’s everyday journeys. Whether you are looking for punishing performance or a refined cruise, the 720S Spider offers the supreme Super Series performance when you want it.

The carbon fibre monocoque is the backbone of the 720S Spider. Based on the carbon fibre architecture of the Coupѐ counterpart, the Monocage II-S is so integrally strong that no significant changes (or increase the weight) were needed to allow for the Retractable Hard Top. With no need to alter the ultra-slim A-pillars or windscreen surround, the 720S Spider offers the same extreme performance as the 720S Coupѐ with the added exhilaration of roof-down driving.

The 720S Spider delivers a driving experience that no other supercar can come close to. The Proactive Chassis Control II uses an incredibly advanced algorithm, developed as part of a PhD study at the University of Cambridge, which is fed by live data from several points on the car. By continuously monitoring the car’s dynamics, rather than assessing driver inputs, the 720S Spider gives the ultimate performance. Additional sensors are fitted in the uprights and dampers to measure wheel acceleration, as well as pressure in the dampers themselves. The balancing body control and ride comfort and overall ride quality is something you simply won’t find outside the world of McLaren.
