Ground-breaking in its ability to return both high performance and high efficiency, the Kia Optima Sportswagon Plug-In Hybrid is a model built for contemporary driving. Conveniently designed to charge using a 220V household socket or at a public charging station, and capable of up to 38 miles of pure electric driving, it ensures clear value over short distances as well as over longer journeys.
The exterior of the Optima Sportswagon PHEV is powerful and stylish; with a body comprising smooth, aerodynamic lines that gives the model a distinctly sporting feel. The black high-gloss grille with active air flap supports the aesthetic appeal, whilst protecting the car’s radiator and engine. Dynamic cornering lights improve night-time visibility by following the curve as the vehicle turns on its 17” alloy wheels. The LED daytime running lights mean daytime performance is just as efficient, whilst the rear-window privacy glass brings some refinement to the model and added peace-of-mind for passengers.
The model’s interior succeeds in optimising key Kia features – comfort, safety and driving performance. The black faux-leather upholstered front seats slide, recline and are heated; with the driver’s seat providing assisted lumbar support to ensure maximum comfort. The heated steering wheel eases the chill on winter mornings. The sizeable boot space opens up with a luggage compartment capacity of up to 440 litres, with the rear seats splitting in a clever 40:20:40 formation, which fold to increase load space further. The boot can be opened automatically using the Smart Power Tailgate (via the Smart Key) to make loading easy and efficient.
Technology is prominent in the Optima Sportswagon PHEV.An 8” sat-nav touchscreen (linked to the reversing camera system) makes every journey simpler by generating the quickest, most efficient travel routes for you. Apple CarPlayTM and Android AutoTM are both supported, allowing you to access your own music and podcasts, as well phone calls safely via Bluetooth hands-free. The wireless mobile phone charger is another particularly useful feature – allowing you to store and charge your phone simultaneously on a charging pad situated on the central panel.
The in-built safety features are extensive. These include practical driver support features such as Brake Assist System (BAS), Emergency Stop Signalling (ESS) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC). On-board safety is also paramount, with standard features such as front, side and curtain airbags, all-round 3 point seatbelts and a seatbelt reminder warning making each journey as safe and secure as possible.
The Optima Sportswagon PHEV comes with a 2.0 GDi engine and 11.26 kWh battery. It produces 154bhp between the petrol engine and the battery, and returns an economical combined fuel consumption of 201.8mpg. It can go from 0-60mph in 9.4 seconds, and the CO2 emissions amount to a very respectable 33g/km. The model is available in a variety of colours, including Aluminium Silver, White Pearl and Gravity Blue.
