TYPES OF ELECTRIC / HYBRID ENGINES

MILD HYBRID (MHEV):
An internal combustion engine along with a battery-driven electric motor is used in a mild hybrid setup. A mild hybrid car is similar to that of a self-charging hybrid car however; the car cannot drive solely on battery power. The battery is there to support the petrol or diesel engine and help it to drive more economically.

HYBRID (HEV):
Two sources of power in a HYBRID vehicle include a self-combustion engine and a battery-driven electric motor. The vehicle switches between both engines when required and is self-charging. This can be through regenerative braking.

PLUG-IN HYBRID (PHEV):
Similar to an HEV, however, use a larger battery, meaning it can travel a further range. This means it is required to be plugged into electric mains to be charged.

ALL-ELECTRIC (BEV):
The vehicle runs solely on electric power and so can only run if it is charged at an electrical source.

What is the Cost of Driving Electric?

Electricity is priced by kWh (kilowatt per hour) - so for a full battery charge you multiply the price per kWh by the capacity of the battery (in the same way today you would multiply the price per gallon, by the fuel tank capacity).

The cost of driving electric is dependent on where you charge and the cost of your electricity. Some public charge points are completely free, whereas charges elsewhere may vary. The easiest solution is to install a charge point at home and pay for the electricity you use to charge.

Citroën's charging partner is Pod Point, so they can assist with installing a charge point at your home. Pod Point are fully approved under the government Home charge scheme, so if you have off street parking, you can usually benefit from grant funding of £350 towards the cost of this.
