Park's Kia Coatbridge is pleased to announce the arrival of the Soul EV onto its forecourt, Kia's first fully battery-electric vehicle. A compact but spacious five seat crossover, the Soul EV is the result of almost 30 years of research and development by Kia into electric powertrains. This strategic approach means the Soul EV offers Lanarkshire motorists a class-leading range of up to 132 miles (212 kilometres) on a single charge*.
The new Kia Soul EV is instantly recognisable with its dramatic styling – largely unchanged from the combustion-engine version - which is sure to turn heads in and around Lanarkshire. The EV is available in a choice of two colour schemes – Caribbean Blue metallic with a Clear White roof, or Titanium Silver metallic. The design team in California has also kept the unique design in the interior with the upholstery in Grey Eco-cloth with blue stitching, and the fascia panel, door inserts and gear selector finished in High-Gloss White.
The cabin is also trimmed in 'green' materials wherever possible in keeping with the environmentally friendly powertrain of the Soul EV. This has led to the car being awarded UL Environmental Validation for using bio-based organic carbon content for 10 per cent of its interior trim. Bio-degradable plastic, bio-foam and bio-fabric are all used in the construction of the Soul EV's interior.
The charging ports on the Kia Soul EV are hidden behind a panel where the radiator grille would normally be found. Owners have the option of recharging the batteries through a standard domestic socket, which can take between 11 – 14 hours; via the Kia-branded wallbox supplied as standard with the Soul EV, reducing the charge time to around five hours; or through a public rapid charger which can top up the battery to 80 per cent capacity in 33 minutes, perfect for longer car journeys.
The Soul EV's lithium-ion polymer batteries are arguably the most advanced in any electric vehicle currently on sale. Regenerative braking on the Soul EV tops up the batteries when coasting or slowing down. Further contributions to the class-leading range include a unique air conditioning system which can be set to heat or cool only one side of the car when the driver is travelling alone.
With a top speed of 90mph, the Soul EV is more than adequate for driving around town, and the electric motor which drives the car can develop 81.4 kilowatts, the equivalent of 109bhp in a combustion-engine model. It is also extremely smooth and is so quiet that it is fitted with a Virtual Engine Sound System at low speeds to alert pedestrians and cyclists.
There is just one highly equipped model, priced at £24,995 after the government's £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG). It is currently exempt from UK road tax (VED), company car tax (BIK) and the London Congestion Charge.
Sandy Bryce, Sales Director comments: “We are extremely excited to offer local motorists the Kia Soul EV, it is perfect for those who want a car with a bit of personality but are also environmentally-conscious. With zero-emissions, it's designed to lower running costs for owners who live, commute or do business in traffic-clogged towns and cities, and on top of the exciting technology the Soul EV boasts, its sense of fun and distinctive styling will be a hit with local motorists."
The Kia Soul EV comes loaded with a range of features as standard, including an eight-inch touch-screen with European mapping, traffic messaging channel, reversing camera and charging point locator; automatic air conditioning with the driver-only function; heated front seats; a smart key with a motor start/stop button; projection headlights with LED daytime running lights; front fog lamps; privacy glass on the rear windows and tailgate; and 16-inch lightweight alloy wheels with super-low-rolling-resistance tyres. In-car entertainment includes a DAB RDS radio with MP3 compatibility, USB and AUX ports and Bluetooth with voice recognition and music streaming.
As with every new Kia, the Soul EV comes with Kia's industry-leading and fully-transferable seven year warranty. The warranty is transferable to any subsequent owner should the car be sold before the end of the warranty. It is available with Kia's Care-3 servicing package, prices start from £199 which covers the cost of all routine maintenance – including parts and labour – for three to five years. Like the warranty, this can be transferred to any subsequent owner should the car be sold before the expiry date.
