5 Series Saloon models come with significant specification as standard including Dakota leather interior, 17 inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning with two zone control, multi-functional leather steering wheel and Bluetooth preparation. Inside the cabin the luxurious driver-focused interior has been expertly crafted with great attention to detail. There is also generous leg and head room for driver and passengers alike.
In terms of practicality, the 5 Series Saloon includes a wholesome 520 litre boot capacity and ski hatch while the Touring Estate version offers an exceptional range of flexibility and storage options. Revised for 2013, the Gran Turismo model too, is said to have been extended to possess even greater space than the estate and also features a sliding rear bench.
All models feature BMW EfficientDynamics technologies as standard. These combine to minimise fuel consumption and C02 emissions whilst maximising power and dynamic performance. A new eight-speed automatic transmission can be selected which further contributes to performance and efficiency.
Equipped with an impressive range of diesel and petrol engines – 523i, 528i, 535i, 520d, 525d, 530d and 535d, the 5 Series Saloon comes with a choice of Sport Edition and M Sport trims depending on what level of specification you are looking for. For 2013 a new entry-level 518d has joined the line-up, using the same engine as the 520d M Sport, it is detuned to produce just 141bhp and less torque and is ideal for fleet customers. Another new engine addition is the 550i which enjoys a detuned version of the twin-turbo V8 from the M5 to produce 450hp. You can also add more personal touches to your 5 Series Saloon by selecting from an exclusive range of option packs and expertly crafted accessories.
The list of highly advanced options includes Dynamic Drive Control which allows the car's steering and suspension, among other things, to be tailored to your individual driving style for a smoother drive. BMW's Park Assist technology is also available and lets you know whether your car will fit into a tight space and by operating only the brake reverses unaided into position.
2013 has seen the whole range modernised with changes to the front and rear lights, a re-shaped grille, slender 'winglets' on top of the air-intakes at the front of the car and new paint and trim arrangements. The BMW 5 Series has also been branded one of the safest cars on the road with a maximum 5-star Euro NCAP test crash rating, with six airbags, traction and stability control also now fitted as standard.
As well as an increase in the amount of standard equipment, the latest 5 Series models for 2013 come with the option of game-changing technology features such as on-board message dictation, allowing 5 Series owners the option to send text and email on the go or the 24/7 concierge service that is able to assist drivers in sourcing last-minute restaurants or hotels should their plans change.
